I am one of 22 artists participating in this years fundraiser. This is your chance to get a unique art piece and support local arts. There are a lot of fundraisers out there of course, and if you choose to click here and support another cause, that is fully understandable. However, the arts deserve their time to shine as well, for the joy that everyone gets from seeing such pieces around, as well as to foster the start of many new artists’ careers. From 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, until 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 18, Zygote Press hosts a 24-hour printmaking marathon. This is a great way to learn more about printmaking, which remains a top art form (click here to learn why) yet is often underappreciated. There will be a live Facebook feed for the entire 24 hours, as well as “Peak Party” for the public from 6 to 10 p.m. During the event, emcees Joe Cimperman and Bellamy Printz will auction off the mono prints created during the event to support Zygote Press and its many important efforts. Confirmed artists include: Shelly Ahearn, Tom Balbo, Justin Brennan, John W. Carlson, Amy Casey, Dave Cintron, Michael Conti, Susan Danko, Hilary Gent, Dale Goode, Erin Guido, Kasumi, Eric Neff, Dana Oldfather, Patricia Zinmeister Parker, Scott Pickering, Dante Rodriguez, Darius Steward, Grace Summanen and Douglas Max Utter. It is sure to be an exciting time, and a great bit of fun, so if you can spare any time, money – or both – then it may be a solid idea to swing on by and see us all at work. Or, at the very least, to chip in a bit for a good cause.

Terminal Lovers w/ Messthetics
/in MusicI’m very excited to play with Brendan Canty’s new band Messthetics. Brendan and Joe are a phenomenal rhythm section, formally of Fugazi, teamed with guitarist Anthony Pirog to form this excellent instrumental unit. Terminal Lovers will be playing a rare Cleveland show, and will be featuring new material from their forthcoming release.

The Tenses + Bren’t Lewiis Ensemble – Daughter Of The Boot
/in MusicLeroy Tick and Silvia Kastel contribute field recordings to Daughter Of The Boot, a new release out now on Chocolate Monk. This collaboration by The Tenses + Bren’t Lewiis Ensemble features Oblivia and Ju Suk Reet Meate of Smegma, Lucian Tielens, Gnarlos, and The City Councilman.
On a gorgeous spring afternoon in the PacNW, there is no better way to spend it than inside a 420-square-foot windowless room rattling sleigh bells with your foot, dropping rubber balls onto a broken old bongo drum, spinning scratchy records backward by hand, and sputtering into a shenai steadily and slowly so that it sounds like you’re pushing a desk across the floor. Here is sixty-five minutes of spontaneous sound collage, bent improv, non-musical weirdness that resembles injured mammals on the verge of giving up, surprisingly delicate noise, and general quasi-cinematic clatter. The two pieces delivered here by these clunkmeisters — recording together for the first time — are rusty, crusty, dusty and musty epics in the tradition of groups such as Morphogenesis, Solid Eye, Taj Mahal Travellers, and early Zoviet-France. Cover art by Ace Farren Ford. Numbered edition of 80.
