Art Statement

Inspired by the natural world, our man-made world, and the inner spiritual realm, my current artistic practice functions as a grounding meditation. It is an expression of what I notice.

A background of more than 36 years in painting, drawing, and design informs my creative process with deeply trusted intuition. Working with simultaneous intention and action, my ink drawings and colorful acrylic paintings reveal images emergent from the unconscious mind. They explore form and formlessness, energy and movement, and imagined structures and scenes that contain mystery and wonder beyond this current time and place—beyond words and definitions.

There is a continual back-and-forth between automatism—creating without conscious thought—and stepping back to make more considered decisions regarding color, composition, pattern, shape, space, and dimension. I occasionally recognize familiar forms emerging in the work and may cultivate them just enough while often allowing identification to remain elusive. The intervals between work sessions provide an important temporal aspect to my process, which has become a daily, life-affirming discipline.

My work invites viewers to connect viscerally and explore each piece while fully engaged in the present moment, without the need for answers.
